The flue serving the ballroom was breached, leaking fumes upstairs. Further problems with the flue were nearly all of the earth mortar in the stack was gone, and the random stone built flue had become unstable.


It was decided that the best solution would be to line the flue with Thermocrete, which rebuilt the stack from the inside out, reinstating the flue with very close to the original cross sectional area of flue. Draw was improved and the existing existing ornamental fireplace was retained without any need for modification.


Works were carried out over two days, as special care had to be taken to avoid any damage to the ornamental plasterwork and paneling
